Main wines from Le Marche are :
Verdicchio is the superstar of Le Marche wines. It's famous worldwide as one of the best matches for fish and seafruits dishes as well as aperitifs.
The others aren't as famous but quickly
gaining growing appeciation and respect
in Italy : Rosso Piceno is produced in the
Ascoli area where Montelparo is and where
courses are held.
Rich and rubin, is great with meat and
main courses. Nearby we also find a small
production of a sparkling wine: Vernaccia
di Serrapetrona, the only d.o.c.g. of the
region.
White ones of the area are Falerio dei colli ascolani, delicate and aromatic, and two ancient type of grapes recently rediscovered and produced, Pecorino and Passerina.
Not far to the north where the climate cools down we have the Maceratino, another ancient treasure.
Strong and rich in flavour are the other
two main reds of the region : Rosso Conero
and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, produced in
the Ancona area.
Getting closer to the
Piedmont tipical strenght, these reds are
generous and fulfilling. It requires matching
food in strength.
